Oh What a Night!

There is nothing like a newborn, to make you dream, even lust, for sleep!  I definitely am not complaining though, because most nights MK does great!!!  She goes 3 -5 hour stretches, nurses, and goes right back to sleep!  Last night was no exception — until . . ..

MK was down at 10, up at 1am and then right back to sleep.   (Side note- Charlie woke up crying at 1:30 – so I got in bed with him for about an hour).  Same thing at 4 am.  I went to throw away a teetee diaper after I got her settled in the cradle and noticed it had ants on it!  Ugh, there were ants all over the diaper, my water glass (which I had just been drinking out of), her gripe water, Mylicon drops, burp cloth – EVERYTHING!!  I mangage to get everything to the bathroom and all the ants destroyed and go to collapse into bed, when I see the most awful thing in the crib — MK is projectile spitting up.  It was a doozie, if I had been worried about how much milk she was getting – I can now rest assured that she is taking a lot!!  I yell for Chad to help as I grab her up.  He, being the world’s hardest sleeper, comes to my rescue and begins unrolling blankets and throwing them on the spit up – like that is going to help!!  Bless his heart.  ( he intended to just lay her back down)  This morning he couldn’t remember any of it.  He walked MK around and got her back to sleep while I cleaned up her bed.  We ended up putting her in the Moses basket between us in bed, with the head propped up.  She was up hungry just a few minutes later, but after that she slept until 8:30 – poor baby!

Charlie had reflux as a little guy and we were just talking to the Doctor yesterday and it looks like we are headed down the same path!

  1. Oh Katie. I cannot say that I envy you. Although I love newborns, the lack of sleep always really got to me. So I feel your pain. I am one of those people that really need their sleep and I wish I didn’t b/c it would make having newborns a little easier. That is tough girl. I hope you get to snooze a little today granted that Charlie naps when the baby naps :) Good luck. I can’t wait to see her. And this too shall pass.

  2. Oh, I meant to tell you. We had a rough night last night as well which is funny b/c it was on the same night as yours and Ava usually sleeps through the night. She woke up at 3:00 a.m. last night and decided she was not going back to sleep. Weird. So I fed her a bottle and she downed it. Growth spurt? Then she woke up at 5:45 and she usually sleeps anywhere from 7:00-8:00. So I go in there and poor thing has peed all over herself and the sheets. I DID change her but I laid a blanket over the pee pee sheet till this morning when she got up for good and then I changed the sheet. But if she was a newborn I would have changed it right away :)

  3. Oh how I remember those nights!!!! I love babies, the smell of them, their so soft skin, the little noises they make but oh how I do not like the sleepless nights!!!!! :o )

  4. Poor thing- both of you! Here’s to wishing you a better night’s sleep tonight!

  5. The only thing bad about newborns is the lack of sleep that mommy and daddy get! I hope you are all catching a nap over there today!

  6. GIRL ………. I’m sleepless right there with ya!! It is no fun!!

We also did the reflux thing with Gracie, and now again w/ Jamin. The second time around I recognized it immediately so we were able to get diagnosed and treated much earlier this time. I’ve learned that symptoms tend to begin around 2weeks old ……. seems to match up with what you’re experiencing.

I sure hope it’s not reflux for MK, but def. jump on it if symptoms continue. Being diagnosed early made the biggest difference for us this time around.

    Hugs and prayers!! :) K
